Easy Tips for How to Declutter Your Home

A cluttered home is neither a restful nor relaxing place in which to spend time, but when you develop a gameplan for how to declutter your home, you can enjoy a more attractive and serene environment in less time than you think.

First, get a big cardboard box and a large garbage bag before you begin tackling any decluttering project. Start with one room at a time and work in a clockwise fashion around the room. Put items you want to donate to charity or put into storage into the cardboard box and items that are old, broken, worn out or no longer functional into the garbage bag for disposal.

Make it a rule to only handle each item once and make a decision on whether you want to let go of it, keep it or toss it.
As you work around each room, clear the tops of cabinets of all clutter and only replace the group of objects with one key item. Go through your library and media shelves and donate old books, tapes and DVDs to your local library. Toss or give away old magazines.

Throw out all old and expired beauty products and medications from the bathroom cupboards and get rid of mismatched towels and accessories that no longer work. In the kitchen, remove anything that is sitting on the counter and put it out of sight, and get rid of any equipment that is duplicated. You really don’t need two woks, coffee makers or blenders.

Invest in some plastic storage bins or compartments that allow you to store items out of sight yet still quickly see what’s inside. Once your home is decluttered, treat yourself to a weekly bouquet of flowers as a reminder to keep everything in its place. And for every new item you bring into the house, get rid of at least two old items to prevent the cluttering process from starting all over again.
